Woke up at 7:15am, had cereal for breakfast, threw out the trash, and headed to school. 4 lessons to teach today! First up was 5-2 in period 2, and it was a perfect lesson. We finished all the textbook listening activities, asking/answering activities, alphabet writing exercises, everything early! So we spent the last spare 5 minutes playing alphabet charades, which the kids loved. 5-2 is really onto it, and they’re pretty smart and fast at learning English. 5-1 up next in period 3 and it was a good lesson, although very subdued and quiet. We got through all the textbook activities with time to spare as well, so we caught up on the alphabet writing worksheets, and birthday card activity. 5-1 was one alphabet sheet behind 5-2, so we finished 2 sheets, instead of playing a game. 3-1 up next in period 4 because of a schedule change. It was a good lesson. They had a lot of trouble remembering the new stationary items though, I’ll have to drill that into them more in the following lessons.
For today’s English broadcast, I played some English songs (kid friendly – Bruno Mars’ “You can count on me” and Owl City’s “Fireflies”) and the kids really liked it! They recognised Bruno Mars’ song actually, and said they had heard it before on a game or TV program. Lunch today was bibimbap, and really nice noodle soup, and super nice yoghurt!
Last class of the day with 6-1 in period 5, and it was a good lesson. We fixed up the rules a bit for the birthday card exchange game after 6-2 did it badly yesterday, and it went very well today. Got off work on time at 16:00, after having a quick meeting with the 2nd grade teachers for Monday’s lesson. The meeting was actually really good, and we had a really in depth discussion on how to best help the kids remember the numbers, because the teachers felt like they were really struggling with 11~20.
