Woke up at 7:10am, had rice for breakfast, and drove to school. An extremely free day today because 3rd grade is off on a school outing, so I only have 6-2 in period 5. Managed to fill up the time by doing lesson prep, reading, and (finally) changing the English corner. I’ve been super lazy with the English corner this year, but no one has said anything so I don't think anyone really cares, phew. I kept the class photos up on there, so now the English corner board looks nice and full, yay! Lunch today was super delicious again. Not saying it wasn’t delicious last year (it was), but I feel like the new nutritionist makes even more delicious food! We’re very lucky to have our own school lunch team. We had egg and tomato soup, potato and sausage mix, and pumpkin bread bun. No idea why there always seems to be leftovers in 5-1 but I very gladly helped myself to second servings of soup, and the potato sausage mix. Today was super fun again today – we talked about what the kids are going to do this weekend (swimming, skateboarding, softball, soccer, marching band practice), and did some English practice for their self-introduction presentations tomorrow! A lot of them forgot about having to present in English class tomorrow sadly, so I had to keep reminding all of them. Cleaning time was a breeze again – I love how the kids treat finding rubbish like finding the biggest treasure. Just yesterday they were saying with pouted faces how they “couldn't find any rubbish”. They always finish cleaning too fast though, so I told them to walk back to their classroom extremely slowly, and they did so adorably and very seriously.
Finally a lesson! 6-2 in period 5 and it was another super perfect, great lesson today! We did the 1st hour of this 2nd unit, so the lesson that 6-1 has done already. We had to switch the hours around quite a lot to accommodate the JHS JTE’s attendances, and also the school’s early 5-period timetables (because the teachers still haven’t finished all their home visits). We started off with Small Talk again. When I told them that today’s Small Talk would be very long, one kid was like “Hey then its Long Talk!” haha. We then did the textbook activity, and listening activity, and watched the video of events/holidays overseas – their eyes were glued to the TV screen for this. Finished off with the unscrambling worksheet, and they did this super perfectly. Everyone finished the months, a good quarter finished the whole thing (2 pages), and at least half were ¼ away from finishing the rest of it. When they were doing the worksheet, they all worked very silently and seriously, it was really great to see. I also saw a lot of kids working really hard to write neatly, and honestly I’d say all of them are on the neat side in terms of handwriting! I think its cause they teach writing the alphabet here so robotically, so even though it all looks the same (and all that specific certain font) at least it’s very neat and readable. Spent the rest of the afternoon reading and making sure everything’s ready for next week’s lot of lessons. Got off work at 16:15 and went home.
