Thursday

Woke up at 7:15am, had rice for breakfast, and set off for school. We’re back to gorgeous sunny weather today! Spent the first two spare periods planning and prepping stuff for next week’s lessons. Then had class with 3-1 in period 3. It was a good lesson but it got super loud during the rock-scissors-paper mini tournament. Fixed this a little bit in 3-2 by adding in a “special rule” where they could only whisper. It was actually really cute how they did it very properly (they were all cautiously whispering “rock…scissors…paper”) but then it just got loud in the end because they couldn't contain their excitement. It was also very cute how they were lining up to rock-scissors-paper with me, and how they were all like “!!!!!!” when they realized I was in the game as well. So far I’ve been really happy with how all the English lessons are going this year. There’s not one single class which I don't look forward to teaching – last year 3-2 was a bit … so I sometimes wouldn't look too forward to their lessons, but all the kids have been really great so far this year. Lunch today was chocolate bread, cream stew with vegetables, and salad. I ate with 6-2 again today and it was a bit quiet during eating time, but towards the end a few of the girls came up to me and showed me their notebooks in which they take down notes during English class, and practice writing English vocab. Tested them a bit to see that they weren’t just copying mindlessly and actually knew what they were writing down. They were doing good reading until they got to the word “white” because they didn’t know how “wh” sounds. English can be so hard sometimes, sorry kids! Cleaning time was super fun again, this week’s kids are a very upbeat and energetic group, yet so obedient. Last class of the day with 6-2 in period 5, and it was a fun lesson because we just played games to practice asking each other “Do you have a ____” and the kids did that well, except it was super noisy cause they were all being extra hyper. Got off work on time at 16:00 today cause I didn't have to have any meetings since it’s just 5th and 6th grade tomorrow and we’d already had the meetings. Headed back out downtown at 18:00 and met up with some other ALTs for dinner at the Chinese restaurant we went to last time.
