Woke up at 7:15am, rice for breakfast, then drove to school. First up today was 2-3 in period 1. We started off with the usual greetings and then watched a cartoon family tree video I found from Youtube. It included other family members we haven’t learnt (uncle, aunty, cousin, etc.) but the teachers thought it’d be good to show it to them anyway, plus they said the video’s cartoons were cute haha. The kids also really liked it and were repeating the words (and some kids, even the whole sentence!) after the video. After that we played one round of the exchanging card game, and it went pretty well! They properly asked “What do you want?” and properly replied “I want (card) please” and plenty of “Here you are”s and “Thank you”s going around so that was good. We then moved onto writing up the family tree for their future “family plays” that they would do. We didn’t finish this and ran out of time, but we’ll continue it next week. Same thing happened with 2-2 – the card game was good, but ran out of time for the family tree.

2-1 struggled a bit with the card game, forgetting how to say some family members’ in English, but they were able to progress a bit further than the other classes for the family tree, because each group decided their roles pretty fast. Some of the kids were having fun by saying “I’m going to play both the grandmother and mother” “Eh!? That means you’re going to be married twice!” haha. It’s also really heartwarming to see 2-1’s homeroom teacher using more and more English in the classroom. She told me that during one of their art classes, she was going around asking the kids “What’s this?”. So nice to hear. Had lunch with 3-2 today instead of the originally scheduled 3-1 because they’re all away on flu quarantine. We had a hamburger patty today with cheese on top! It was so delicious – everyone was paper scissors rocking over the leftover patties. Spent the lunchtime outside in the warm sunshine with a mixture of 2nd graders and 4th graders playing jump rope. Cleaning time had a few rough patches, but after I told one pair off, they cleaned seriously in absolutely silence, even I was surprised by it!

Last classes of the day with 5th grade. 5-1 in period 5 and it was an average lesson, a bit of a pity since it was the last lesson of the unit too. We did a restaurant activity where half the class would be waiters, and half would be the customers requesting their foods to complete their dream menu, but only a few kids were actually doing it properly. Finished off the last 5 minutes playing fruits basket, which they did well enough, because 5-1 seriously loves to play fruits basket. 5-2 was the opposite, where more kids did the restaurant activity properly, but then they moved too slow for fruits basket, so that wasn’t done very well. Got off work at 16:15 and drove home. Once it reached 19:00 I went out to the supermarket to stock up on some groceries.
