Woke up at 7:10am, had rice for breakfast, then drove to school. Nice day with 5 lessons today, and first up was 2-3. It was a great lesson – we were on the new unit “Actions” so it was a lot of “Head Shoulders Knees and Toes” and Simon Says, and charades. They guessed all the actions and remembered all the vocab pretty well, so I was very happy. 2-2 up next and they were actually very good today! They’re usually the quieter class and less participative, but they were very active and involved today, so I was also very happy with them. It was funny because they were struggling with “turn around” the most, always getting the “turn” part right, and then mumbling “arrr…uondouendod” since they couldn't remember it properly. It was cute. 2-1 in period 3 and they were also much better than usual today! Still got a few tears because of making mistakes in Simon Says, or something like that, but they stopped crying fairly quickly so it wasn’t bad at all. They took a little longer than the other classes to remember all the action words, so their teacher asked me to print out smaller versions of the flash cards to stick around the classroom so that they can try and remember them throughout the week. 2-1’s homeroom teacher is really nice and tries really hard to learn English, it’s really heartwarming.

Spent period 4 printing and laminating the props for Grade 4’s plays, since my JTE had the idea that instead of the 4th graders doing plays, they could use the printouts I’ve already made to do a mini puppet show instead! She thought that that way they would have an easier time remembering the lines. Lunch today with 1-1 was hilarious because the main dish was a cocoa powder covered deep fried bread (normally it's just sugar) so the kids all had cocoa powder ALL over their faces. They spent the entire lunchtime laughing at each other and seeing who had the best chocolate beards and moustaches. Hilarious for the kids but stressful for their homeroom teacher who had to keep reminding them to eat and finish! Period 5 and 6 with 5-2 and 5-1 was relatively the same for both classes, and both classes performed about the same – not super good but not bad either. We just did a summary test for the alphabet lower case letters, and then played the back-relay writing game for the remainder of the time. Got off work a bit late today at 17:00 because we were sticking chopsticks on the backs of all the props for 4th grade for their little puppet show.
