Wednesday

Woke up at 7:00am to cloudy weather, but still it’s not raining so yay! Had cereal for breakfast and then cycled to school. Standard day of 4 classes today. First up was 2-3 in period 1, and we were starting the new “jobs” unit. They were pretty great again today, I think the most difficult vocab for them to remember was “police officer” and “carpenter” and “student”. They were able to remember all the other ones really well, and they especially loved “singer” because they found the picture card of it funny. Karuta was also fairly smooth with no tears or scuffles today. 2-2 was also pretty good and they loved shouting “FIRE FIGHTER”. Karuta was funny today because since it was all new vocab, they were a lot slower in slapping the cards. They’d say “What job?” and I’d say “dentist” and they’d be like “DENTIST DENTIST” while looking for the card, and then hesitantly slapping their hand down, and then they’d hold up their card and be like “Dentist?? Dentist??” to me. We ran out of time to do furikaeri at the end for all 2nd grade classes today though, oops. 2-1 in period 3 was very good until the very end where a few kids got upset in Karuta, and during the cleanup time (putting the cards away back into their envelopes) one kid got into a fuss. It got pretty bad with one kid calling the homeroom teacher names and the other one sitting on the floor crying. We ignored them and continued to finish the lesson, and then the homeroom teacher dealt with it afterwards.

5-1 in period 4 and we moved onto presenting their quizzes today. Most of them were very sweet and actually practiced saying out the hints in English when I came round to teach them the words. Lots of kids were able to present their quiz today so that was good. I even got the kids who don’t usually present to present! And also got the kid who usually messes around to at least practice saying out the hints to me. I’m having my BOE class observation next Wednesday with 5-1 and I’m pretty hopeful about it – the kids seem to be in a good mood with English lately so I hope their mood will be good for that day! Lunch with 4-1 again today and we had meat-don with salad and egg soup. 4-1 always finishes eating really fast, so they have a lot of spare time at the end to chat and play around. Spent the lunch break indoors today since there was no sunshine, and also because the blank autumn leaves at the English board have all been taken, so I had to cut out more and restock it – the tree is starting to look really good! Spent 5th and 6th period writing out new nametags for 2nd grade since the school had ordered proper nametag holders for all the kids to wear during English class. Got off work at 16:15, cycled home, had udon for dinner, and tried to catch up on editing all my photos from the past autumn-leaf viewing weekend!
