Short day trip to Yokohama today! Today’s weather was pretty bad as a typhoon was hitting Japan, but thankfully it was just rain and not too much wind. We woke up at 8:00am, ate cereal for breakfast at home, and set off around 9:30am. The train ride to Yokohama didn’t take too long, only an hour. Our first stop was Chinatown for some lunch! We searched up which places were good and ended up going to 山東. It was run by Chinese people! We were super hungry so we ordered quite a lot of food – tofu, chicken, fried dumplings and steamed dumplings. The steamed dumplings had celery in them so they purposely made the skin green too! Very cute. After lunch we walked around a little bit Chinatown, but not for long because the rain was not letting up. We took the local train to the Cup Noodle Museum, but it was very crowded so we ended up skipping that and going straight to 赤レンガ – the famous red brick warehouse. The shops inside were all very cute and artsy! It reminded me of the revamped police station in Hong Kong now filled with artsy stores. We took a coffee/tea break and I had this amazing cordial soda – it had ginger and a whole lot of other herby flowery stuff and it tasted so refreshing and energizing! We walked to the harbor to have a quick look and there was a seagull randomly bobbing up and down in the sea.
After that we walked around the nearby shopping mall, had Starbucks (new Houjicha limited edition flavor!!! So nice!!!), had dinner at the foodcourt (we both got bibimbap with loads of kimchi!) and then went home. On the way home my friend introduced me to this bakery near her house, they specialized more in takeaway goods like cakes and cookies rather than fresh breads and the like, so I bought some things to try for breakfast tomorrow!
