Got woken up at 6:02am this morning by the missile alert. My phone rang really loudly, and normally it’s for earthquakes, but this time the message was about a missile launched from North Korea. The message said to evacuate to a sturdy building or underground safe house, but I heard no movement or anything from my neighbours so I just stayed put. On our group chat the other ALTs also said they received the alert (some ALTs didn’t though!) and didn't hear any movement/saw everyone still going about as normal so they didn't take any action either. Later on a second alert came at 6:14am stating that the missile had passed over Japan, and that if you came across anything suspicious to report it immediately. Turning on the TV, the news showed that North Korea had fired the missile just before 6:00am and it passed over Hokkaido, Japan, into the waters.
After that eventful morning, I had breakfast and headed to school as normal. The teacher for one of the 2nd grade classes told me to do my self-intro lesson for the whole hour for all 2nd classes (three in total), so that was cool! I spent most of the morning making quiz powerpoints for the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade classes. I also made a longer version of my self-intro powerpoint for the lower grades, including more quizzes and questions to make it more interactive and interesting hopefully. After that I found myself with some spare time again so it was more Japanese study and video editing. After lunch I met up with the JTE again. We went to the classrooms to see how the connection to the TV works so that I can buy the right cable/adaptor for my Macbook. We then proceeded to plan lessons for 4th, 5th, and 6th grades and got a whole week’s worth of lessons planned! A lot of the materials (flash cards, picture cards, etc.) have actually already been made by the previous JTEs so that was really helpful.
Finished work a bit later today at 16:00 because of the meeting with the JTE, and then went straight back home. Bought an HDMI adaptor from Amazon so that I can connect my Mac with the school’s classroom TVs.
